It's to ensure that Trevor has enough clearance to act with his whip without having to worry about catching her in its radius; it's also to ensure that Alucard has room to move both laterally as well as forward and backward without having to try to dodge her as he maneuvers faster than either she or Trevor could ever hope to do. It's to partially obscure herself from view behind her taller, broader companions, because the element of surprise is always an asset. It's to give off the impression, to an unsuspecting fool given to assumptions, that she is afraid of a fight, and no real threat in her own right.
