[Which was a part of the other reason the ladies were considered the apex of the city's hunting population. They established the rule of law with Dracula as no one else could have (Lisa had a theory, and that was his father was always entertained when the most unexpected of people stood up to him), and they maintained it through that combination of sheer will and gestures like this. The younger vampires, they didn't quite understand why most of their elders entertained any of this nonsense.

Alucard also lives in satisfaction that he was right about how every single one of those women became those who could exert any kind of positive influence on the Belmont. He and Sypha were stymied by their own problems, by politics, and Trevor being Trevor. When he wrote them thank you notes for baked goods, he included thank yous for looking after Trevor as well.
