Were it living, the creature might feel pain and adjust the way it moves to account for the damage. It's not, and so it keeps trying uselessly to put weight on a leg that can no longer hold it.
It'd be slightly more comfort if it didn't feel like the thing had just succeeded at ripping off his arm, but it's still good. Hard for it to use those front legs to swipe at anything like this. It's bought them more time, even if the thing gets past Trevor, and made it safe to fight more defensively.
