"Blood." He doesn't expect the answer will really surprise the other dhampir, but makes an attempt to elaborate. Adrian hasn't asked him to leave and hasn't shied away, both of which would be understandable responses and nothing D would fault him for, and if anyone could understand this...
"Sometimes it can be forced by other means but primarily fresh blood. My own or another's. My abilities increase in response which can be useful."
There's a long pause while he considers if there's more to add or if that is enough, then D continues, each word sounding as though it took some effort to voice: "I was mistaken to try it now."

How do you think?
[He leans in, feeling more certain the closer he approaches. He doesn't mind the implications of what he is learning, he just needs to know for sure. Alucard's hesitance reminds him- tasting would mean something very different to a vampire that it would humans.]
You don't drink blood. I wouldn't ask that of you. You have two humans. I assume you have some clue as to other ways we could gather this data.
[In case Alucard is still confused, Hector closes the distance between them until their noses brush, close enough to share a single breath.]

[Chaste is nothing. Hector isn't going to back down from something as simple as a kiss. He presses forward, parting his lips so Alucard can get a proper sample.
Hector is not above killing two birds with one stone (not that he would ever kill a bird). He can find out more about his powers and kiss an impossibly handsome man who would normally be out of his reach. To waste this opportunity would be foolhardy.
Hector shifts, bumping his leg against Alucard as he draws in closer. Thorough testing is something every man of science can appreciate.]

D watches him and while Adrian seems to relax he remains tense... but then he's never seemed not tense so it hardly means much. He'd expected more questions, however, and finds himself oddly relieved but surprised at the fact that there aren't any.
It sounds like a dismissal in the other man's words, so he nods and moves to the sink Adrian had used in order to rinse out the empty flask and set it aside.
He should simply leave now, return Adrian to the silence and focus that he likely wishes for, but D instead lingers at the edge of the door. He doesn't look back but just pauses there.
"He made this castle, didn't he? The parts I've seen are like what castles of my time are."

[Hector isn't squeamish. A little blood wouldn't send him running. He was always protected in Dracula's court, but that doesn't mean he wasn't curious about what it would be like to allow someone to feed from him.
He is less cautious that Alucard, exploring with lips and tongue. He encounters fangs, which is a novel experience, and if there is a momentary prick of pain and the faint taste of copper, he barely notices in the onslaught of other sensations. Alucard's hand on his cheek is cooler than he would expect; the hair, when Hector reaches up to stroke back the stray golden strands tickling his face, is just as soft as he imagined it would be.
Drawing near to what he could feasibly write off as a test, Hector draws back. He hopes Alucard can't hear his heart's thumping.]
So...what's the verdict?

So...what's the verdict?
[Hector has no chance with Alucard, he knows. But Alucard hasn't stopped him yet, so he's emboldened. Whatever consequences he faces for this, it will be worth it.]
Is that conclusive?
[His tone, the fact that his leg is still pressed against Alucard's, the fingers twirling through golden hair...it should be pretty hard for Alucard to miss the implication that Hector is more than willing to go through some rigorous trials to be sure.]

Sypha, get out. Something's-
[ Sypha doesn't get very far into her Belmont, I told you so before the castle consumes the both of them, bringing them into its entrance way for real this time. The castle creaks and groans with the effort, but they're standing there with Alucard now. ]
-happening. [ He pauses, looking around at the castle. ] Well, fuck me.

[ Confinement is very quickly becoming an all too relevant term. It's not a problem yet. It's going to become one before long. But he doesn't complain, at least not for now. It's a part of the appeal of this for him, being able to trust Alucard to only let him suffer in fun ways. ]
I think I can continue my holy mission like this.
[ He does, however, make a point of very-not-accidentally grinding against Alucard as he bends to continue. He continues, kissing downward as far as he can manage without moving his hips out of range of Alucard's hands - almost to the edge of the sheet - and then, slowly, upward again. The scar gets no extra attention, but nor does he flinch away from it, brushing his lips against the skin there the same as anywhere else.
It's tempting to skip the other arm, knowing that once he gets to the neck he's not going to get a chance to go back to it. So he pauses once he reaches the collarbone again, waiting for instruction.
And maybe lets his teeth graze it very, very softly while he waits. He still has a curse or two to earn, after all. ]

[Because no one in Wallachia is willing to invest the time in making some damned phyllo, that's why!
Hector hums with delight as Alucard responds this time; it is not like the dhampir to tiptoe around so delicately. He leans his body back into the couch and hooks a finger in Alucard's collar to drag him along with Hector. He's not strong enough to actually move Alucard anywhere he doesn't want to be, but he can give him a suggestion of where he'd like him to be.
It would probably be smart to avoid the fangs, but when has Hector ever done the smart thing? He's curious, and curiosity is the driving force in his life. He wants to map out the length and width, to understand all the ways Alucard's bone structure differs from his own. He would very much like to keep kissing him for as long as he's allowed, but he can't help himself, like a moth drawn to candle light.]

The page is covered in intense lines of graphite, outlining a complex bank of controls and strange, twisted machinery. It's not unlike some of what D has noticed around the castle itself and even if the mind behind both isn't the same, the technology is similar.
He turns at the question, and there's a touch of something that might be sadness to his eyes.
"Hundreds. Many fallen to ruin, their masters long since gone. Their remains are scattered across the lands, hang silent and unmoving in the night sky above."

I don’t think so. It moved every few years for about a century, then we tracked its magic to England but we just couldn’t find it. Always did seem like a tiny county to lose a whole castle in.
But- shit. [ The specific state of the castle seems familiar, though he’s never seen it in a building before. He brushes a hand against the wall and stares as layers of stone peel from it like layers of skin. The sound of its groaning is like bone scraping against bone. ] It’s still a church. Even desanctified. It’s protecting you from the worst of it, but it’s- hurting it, being a church.

A job half done. Suppose that would be a terrible offence to you.
[ He lets Alucard guide him downward, trailing kisses down over his ribs as he does. He’s slower about it this time, and he wasn’t exactly hasty before. It takes a little while before he reaches Alucard’s hip, tracing across it with more kisses to reach his other side, dangerously close to the edge of the sheet ]
Please forgive this humble sinner’s mistake.
