[In the end Carmilla is not the real threat that they all expect her to be. There's some joke to be made about Austrians starting wars they can never finish, but that's a far future joke in truth. All Alucard knows is that all of the preparation and work that he, Trevor, and Sypha end up putting into protecting not only the castle, but all possible routes to it, ends up being in vein. Alucard has a suspect whose name begins with I, but he is wise enough to know that there is no value in seeking the confirmation out. Better to not draw such attention from someone like that.

Wallachia's yet to truly settle, seven years on from the nightmare his father brought down upon it's head. Most of the major cities have rebuilt, but there are towns that have now simply been left to the ages. Too many residents died, leaving the rest of the community unsustainable. There are food shortages for that reason too, but the new overlords of the region, the Ottomans, have a vested interest in helping to alleviate that burden.

Trevor and Sypha travel less, although that hardly means they're home all the time. Right now there's something in Hoia Baciu that has demanded their attention, and Alucard is left alone to monitor the homestead.

Right now, monitoring means tending to the small group of trees that now line the path up to the castle's front doors. The castle's stationary now, and there is no harm in making the place feel nicer. The trees are fruit bearing anyway, a health mix of apples and pears to provide fruit well into the autumn. Stored properly, that means into the winter as well.

Alucard's inspecting a particular group of blossoms when he hears something distant. All of him snaps to attention, aware that the footfalls are not a pattern he recognizes.

He is a wolf before long, one crouched beside the tree he was examining only moments ago. No noise comes from him. There's only tension.]
