[This entire journey has forced Alucard to spend more time with people than he has in over a decade. He has loathed every minute of it, and hated it more because of the horrible gash across his chest that is taking far longer to heal. (He sewed it by himself. Sypha hasn't seen it, and Trevor would just give some awful explanation about why it's taking so long. Alucard knows why anyway.) If he could shift into his wolf form, he'd be able to weather this better but shifting would simply open the wound again.
He doesn't like staying in the inns. It means there's people everywhere, and there's too many blocked routes of escape. Oh yes, he could leap through a window or do harm to someone, but that would bring attention onto him and that is something he can't afford. Especially not now, not when the matter of Wallachia's night hoards press against the country from all angles.
So he stays out late, the habit well ingrained in him since his mother's murder. Sleep during the day as a wolf, travel and be awake at night when other vampires are the most likely to be looking for him. The system worked until only a few days ago, when Sypha dragged him into her mad quest to stop Dracula. Late and at the edge of the town the inn is in.
It isn't a surprise to him, in the end, when some idiot tries to take the non-existent coin on his person. That's what happens when one lurks at the edge of a town, heavy black cloak tugged tight and the general roughness of Alucard's features making it easy to assume a few things about him.
The fight goes quickly, and the man runs off. He leaves the knife in the stab wound though, knowing full well that to remove it is to make the injury so much worse.]
Fuck.
[There's nothing at the edge of town except a wall. Alucard sighs, leaning his back against the wall and then sliding down it so that he's sitting. The other two will find him in the morning. It's fine.]
