It's been a week. The knowledge does little to ease D's ongoing difficulties... frustrations, although he's loathe to admit it. It's not even the longest time that the hunter has been in one place. But every other time there's been a purpose. A hunt. A goal and a reason to bide his time. And when there wasn't... that was when he'd be on the move, always seeking the next target, the next hunt, the next goal. The next piece of information about his location, where to seek him out and what he might have done to whoever was in his path.
There is none of that here and without that to drive him onward D finds that there's simply... nothing.
Adrian has been kind enough to allow him a place to stay, but he's made it clear that he cannot simply give D a purpose here, and D hates the fact he feels he needs it. It's an uncomfortable reminder of how, even in his own world and time, what purpose he'd found for himself had simply been a way to strike back against his creator's goals for him and without that reason for being he felt lost. There'd never been a choice as far as he was concerned and it was strange to have one now.
Without an idea of what to do with himself, D had fallen back to what he recalled of spending time waiting before. While it hadn't been the life for him, he had helped humans with their lives while waiting for an attack or a new lead, and this seemed the best way to approach it.
Except that Adrian wasn't a farmer and didn't need help with hunting for food. Hunting animals otherwise wasn't anything that interested D, and other than a few attempts to find anything else around the castle that might benefit from some hard labour he simply... existed. More often than not it seemed that he lingered near Adrian's presence, not always in the same area but close enough to keep an eye on him.
"I can't believe this is what we've come to," the parasite remarked loudly. "Mooning around like some sun-touched idiot playing bodyguard to someone who doesn't need it."
"Quiet."
"Why? 'Cause he might hear you and know we're just sitting here doing nothing but watching? You know what you need, D? You need a hobby. Being sad ain't gonna cut it anymore."
