20s AU Post

Current Carmilla plot outline
--Post-fire, Carmilla and Mr. Peanut team up mostly to use each other. Carmilla's spent the past several months (since November, it is now February 1925) networking, and it's clear to her that Alucard's not suited for the position and that the other two are the obvious weakness. Mr Peanut needs something back, so this is perfect on her end. Mr Peanut can only imagine the joys of vampire blood in his work, and he'd like an army of vampires for his own ends.
--Shit stirring from Mr Peanut (all of March?)
--Mr Peanut also begins to sell mis Miracle Serum, which has vampire blood in it.
--Gang is very much trying to murder Mr Peanut during this.
--Start of April, vampire gets a call from one of the blood bank contacts that 3 patients have come in and are displaying some bizarre signs. Investigation yields the fact that they're in process of turning, and they've all taken the same serum.
--Additional investigation reveals O FUCK IT MR PEANUT
--Meanwhile Carmilla's been made aware of a familiar she didn't sire, so she knows something's up. Big fight with Mr. Peanut and thus Mr. Peanut is left depowered
--Gang commits a murder
--Carmilla's well sured up on her contacts now, and it's time for open rebellion (mid-April)
--In a more subtle attempt to let Alucard just step aside, she cuts the breaks on demon car and shows up to gloat/suggest he not pull a dad and go to deal with his grief quietly while she runs the city. The how he wants to do it is up to him (black widow joke goes here.) Treffy and Sypha walk in.
--1 week of straight up rebellion; feedings, no help from allies, need to do damage control instead of fight carmilla, every dracula rule is
--MEANWHILE IN GRAVITY FALLS, triangle shows Vlad what's up to try and psyche him out, somehow this finalyl snaps Vlad out of his depression and he heads home
--Just in time for Alucard and Carmilla to be tearing each other to bits in one of the bayous, it's not going well
--Vlad coming in means the king of vampires is accosted by a belmont with a pair of blessed knitting needles and a speaker with a fucking gun and he's just like what the shit happened to the world while i was gone
--Wards around the fight means that only demon car can break the wards, everyone has to pile in.
--Carmilla gets her ass kicked AND SENT TO THE JUSTICE DIMENSION

THEN THERE WERE FAERIES.
--Prior to all of this the vampire and Sypha have done a shit ton of research on how to get their Belmont back
--Sypha has also been practicing debating with dad, which leaves everyone Very Tired.
--When Trevor is actually snatched up (1 year after marriage, it takes fae effort. Taking Arn's shape fails, so it's a lot more kidnapping by force), Sypha and Alucard go into Faerie
--But they're playing this as politics, not as heroes rescuing their damsel, so that means the faeries are just "wait what now excuse u?"
--There are 3 gates and 3 trials (the particulars we're still bullshitting.) Each is asked to sacrifice 3 things. (Alucard: voice, his titles as bestowed upon by his father and his people, i forget the third; Sypha: her human form (she's a birb), fuck what were the other two)
--They enter the court at the end of the third trial. After LITERALLY ALL THE TITLES Sypha declares she Speaks for Trevor Belmont
--Claim debate over Trevor, turns out that the rules are in Sypha's favor.
--But that means debating to leave Fae without giving up what they've chosen.
--Sypha lawyers it all out, Alucard is a safety deposit and hangs out with Fae!Trevor
--In the end, safe passage out of Faerie consists of Sypha giving up her memory of the necromancer (billed as a great mage she studied under), the vampire gives up his immortality, and Trevor is replaced with Carmilla (dad was aware of this option and OK with it), but Trevor has his ability to swear taken. He now soundslike a rubber ducky when he tries
--Everyone gets home okay, except for the AU of this AU where the gang fails, but Trevor's on their doorstep like a bat out of Hell because time doesn't work right and he's been in Hell for a WHILE.

[He's not joking. Alucard knows he isn't joking because this is on the short list of Shit Trevor Is Marginally Serious About. But it is funny, funny because it's such a reflection on what a wretch Damien was instead.

Not that I want to sound ungrateful for the rescue, but you’re not much of a fucking Soldier.

Knowing his purpose, he may have well been banking on both. Whichever it was would bear out it's truth in time.

[Damien is just The Worst, isn't he? Even now. It's easiest to think about old enemies now, not the things that they're facing at the moment. They're...they're worse than vampires. All three of them know how to deal with vampires now.]

If anything, that's closer to a compliment. I'd rather be a spoiled princeling, given the option between the two.

As an insult, it’d have been a ploy to make you look weak. Justify Carmilla taking the city in your father’s absence.

[ They already knew that part. Aside from the detail about Carmilla it was obvious sine the start. But now there’s a different way this could have gone. Probably one that she would have preferred. ]

If he thought it was true- likely he meant to use you to kill Dracula and have Carmilla use that as justification for killing you while you were weakened and taking the city for herself that way.

God, I almost got the two of you into deep shit. Sorry, and all that.

We were already in deep shit. It would have just been a different variety of deep shit. A...consistency matter, if we're to extend the metaphor to it's disgusting extreme.

[There's a pause as Alucard lets out a soft snort of disapproval. No, disbelief, that's the better word for it.]

Wouldn't have worked anyway. Even on a bad day I'd never survive an actual fight against my father. I'd have died, God knows what would have become of Sypha, and then Carmilla would just have my father in the worst fury he'd ever be in taking her and the whole city down.

This is an exceedingly shit-heavy conversation.

[ He laughs again, quieter this time. The topic isn't exactly laughworthy, save for it being so absurd. ]

[ A long, long pause. ]

I know it probably sucks for you, but it's fucking delightful to learn that you're married to the two most beautiful fucking beings on the planet five times in one day. Best part of this mess.

[Only Alucard could say that and have actual gravity in his voice. It's a statement of fact, Trevor absolutely started using shit more frequently in the conversation. What else could the vampire do but follow?

The vampire, as it turns out, can sigh very quietly at that reminder.]

That had always been the case, you know, with the a few exceptions. It was one of the reasons I didn't want to step into those shoes. I already had enough judgements against me. As far as I know, it's still the case in the eyes of most.

[He had held his father's position by a thread when everything was said and done. Now he was just married to two humans and returned to being only a moderate presence in the social scene. What Alucard had preferred, even before everything had happened.

Alucard hates that quiet. He doesn't like what follows either, but there's at least that stupid fucking adoration in it, along with at least one thing that's keeping Trevor going.]

It...is hard, I can't lie about that. But your face of realization tempers any more bitter thoughts.

[ There's a careful balance. He wants to think about what he's saying, but silence makes the edges of his mind grow fuzzy. ]

[ Which is a great way to say 'don't start a war between fae and vampires'. He has the ring, and he has a pair of tiny punctures over one wrist. If lets them, maybe they'll scar and he'll have two reminders. ]

Found my fucking way across the world to both of you without even knowing you existed. I'll make it home again, sooner or later, whether I remember or not, as long as you're still there. I'm good at showing up in places I shouldn't be.

That...I've had that discussion. I know. I've known since the necromancer that I can't ever hedge that close to being him again, no matter the circumstance.

[He had realized that only after Sypha was back home. After that awkward reconciliation with Trevor. At the end of the day he had become his father in all the ways that would ever matter in the eyes of the world, and that had scared him far to deeply. Combined with the knowledge that this situation would come to pass eventually, control and discipline had become even more important than they already were.

Alucard still didn't trust himself to not do something stupid. Neither did Sypha, and that was what the discussions were for.]

I've always wondered if you just stowed away to get to America. [It's an idle thought. Comes out without meaning to.]

The castle will be there. I...doubt we will be, if things play out in a certain way. Too many memories at that point. Smells. Everything.

[ He hmphs at that, but it's good-natured. Belmonts just show up drunk at people's doors and stab them. Which is much more good and above board. ]

Shouldn't make any difference. I'll just annoy your father until he kills me or points me in the right direction. Or ask Bunicuta - there's no way you're going to be allowed to leave without telling her where you're going.

[ Even if it takes so long that it's just the one of you. ]

[He's fond when he says that, at least. Alucard loves this stupid Belmont. The chaos was worth it.]

[That is the only problem with moving, isn't it? Leaving them and the community that's taken care of Trevor when the other two couldn't, or in Alucard's case, wouldn't. Especially at the start. He's theirs for so many reasons, but the grandmothers are responsible for so much of it.]

[It tumbles out by accident.]

[ That's the awkward part of this, isn't it? Nevermind that he's almost certainly not really capable of finding his way back from wherever he'll be sent when this is done, he's lived two and a half decades in the space of a single day. Time is all wrong. He could find his way out of this - if he could find his way out of this - and there could be nothing left to return to. ]

While there are still two of you to return to. I promise.

[ Promises have power. Here, of all places, most of all. If there's anything he can do, here, to make sure he returns- this is it. ]

A deal. We can call it a deal. That means something here. You don't make it weird, and I'll find my way home.

Do we need to elaborate or clarify on either of those points?

[It's worth asking. It's worth asking because of how this place understands words and deals and all the things that can tangle one over the matter of technicality. Alucard knows that much, even if actions have always been his stronger suit.]

Sypha will yell if we weren't careful.

[ He goes over it in his head, probably not in the best frame of mind to be figuring out the details of these things. ]

You won't attack anyone except to defend Sypha or yourself from imminent danger, no matter how this ends. And I will find my way to you while there are still two of you to find my way back to, alive and whole and myself in mind at the very least, and I will stay.

Think that's good enough?

Provision for if time works against us and it'll only be myself.

[Both of them have to account for it, even as Alucard's face sours with the words.]

Because you're still coming back. No matter what.

[ It's a horrible thought, isn't it? ]

If it's only you, I'll return to you. And you won't do anything too fucking stupid in the meantime, to make sure that you're still there to be returned to.

That'll have to do.

[The next breath the vampire lets out is unsteady. He takes great effort to not think about the other two and their mortality. This...this is not doing that.]

Make sure you don't take that long.

I won't. You'll barely even have time to enjoy the peace and quiet.

[ It's ridiculous. And silly. And comforting, to act like the worst case scenario is a matter of how long rather than of never coming back. ]

Traditionally, I think deals here are finalized with a kiss.

[ That's bullshit and they both know it. ]

That better be true. Beat us before we even start packing.

[Time not working as it does in the human world may yet save them all. Their Belmont, back, but with likely untold centuries of Hell under him. Too changed, maybe, but theirs. Always theirs.]

I didn't ask! They had it in a glass already, just a little, to turn the champagne pink and make it look like rosé. I think they thought it would be funny. Strange how they were not laughing when Alucard turned up to stop them.

[She scoots back a little on her cushion, enough so that she can pull her knees up and just barely rest the heels of her feet on the edge of the couch, all curled up neatly with her mug huddled behind her raised knees like a forest animal coveting a nut.]

I like it when he's protective. And when you are, too. You both act like I am so special.

[She sips at her wine, just a taste on her tongue to start.]

[She yelps a little as he grabs her, though it's not as though she wasn't on some level gunning for precisely that when she'd let herself get within range, so it's less actually startled and more just playful. Doubly so is the way she squirms once he's got her caught, pleased and content but still wanting to make him work just a little bit for his prize.]

And you think you can hold on to me now, even so?

Probably human, then, if all he did was stop them from laughing. He'd have been able to smell the difference.

[ He takes a great gulp of his own, shaking his head in disbelief at vampire antics. It was almost certainly human or animal, on further consideration. There's no way that an attempt to turn Sypha wouldn't have happened without either him finding out from Alucard or him finding out from the newspapers reporting the mess the next morning. ]

You are special. [ He'd move in to hug her at that, but there'll be no end to the trouble they get from the vampire if they spill wine on the furniture. ] Maybe not made out of lace and blown glass, the way he likes to think. But special.

[ AND YES, ALUCARD IS ABSOLUTELY THE ONLY ONE WHO PRETENDS SYPHA IS VERY DELICATE. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE. ]

Still not blood I would want to drink, ugh.

[Speaking of drinking, her next swig isn't quite so grandiose as Trevor's, but she's also not going to be left behind, either. On the other hand, she's smaller and slighter than Trevor is, so even attempting to match him drink for drink is going to knock her cold a lot sooner than it tanks him, before long.]

...I wish he would just drink blood in front of us. It's not as though we don't know he does it. We all know he does. He shouldn't have to pretend like he doesn't.

[She takes another drink, almost thoughtful.]

Don't you think?

That question from a woman who spent an entire week throwing hot coal at me just in case, and I quote, "we have to pull a Tam Lin real fast?"

[His grips around her tightens, and it comes with a warm, rich laugh.]

I think I can manage.

Oh, shush.

[But when she's caught, she's caught, and so it's only a little bit more squirming that follows before she eventually relaxes comfortably into his arms.]
