[If I can what? Live? Deal with the guilt that will come from this action? Something else? Alucard doesn't know. He can't respond anyway, because there are lips against his and now he's promised to live.
But with her.
So maybe he can at least deal with the grief.
Trevor stirs, and so does the wolf on his chest. The Belmont was far too cold, and like this? Alucard could hear a heartbeat. So he slept, head over Trevor's heart, until Trevor's awake and the wolf is on the floor.]
Rrfffh.
[It's a snort-snuffle, and then the wolf is Alucard again.]
It was a way to monitor your heart rate while we all rested.
Sypha is currently functioning as the castle's hearth which is incredibly literal and deeply upsetting, yes.
[He sighs, walking back over to the bed and sitting at the edge of it. Easier to whisper.]
She seems to be for now, but I don't like it much and I've no idea what an extended timeframe could do to her. It'd be better if I took on the duty, but I don't think it's safe to even attempt a transfer right now.
[ It's a problem for all sorts of reasons. The main, obvious one is that Sypha is- whatever the fuck Sypha is right now. That's not great for her, and he's worried. The less obvious one is that that means that they don't have another source of blood. Even if hers is safe to take, which is a matter all of its own, he can't ask her for more when she's already-
-fuck. He doesn't want to starve Alucard. And he knows full well that he'll need a few days at least to perform 'healthy' to the degree that either of them will be comfortable with him doing any more bleeding.
It's a lot to talk about when he's still groggy from blood loss and his side feels like a train ran into it, so instead he talks about something else, his voice taking on a warmer, teasing quality. ]
So you were actually, literally, listening to my heart.
[Alucard seems to be taking that comment seriously. At least with the way he tilts his head, making it clear he doesn't understand why it's the subject of commentary.]
[ It takes some effort, but he sits up. Everything hurts but it's good to know that he can at least manage that. By the time he manages the teasing tone is gone again and replaced with a raw sincerity. ]
But that's, uh- [ Honestly? Kind of touching. It's a lot more concern that he'd expect of anyone. But also weirdly intimate. ] -good of you. Thanks. You didn't have to give that much of a shit.
[Alucard is bad at jokes, but there's sincerity in his voice. He can't joke about something like this, not even if he tried. He only listens, and then after Trevor speaks, adds:]
It's not nothing, it's- [ You know what? This is getting way too close to An Emotion. Backing off. ] -just. Thanks.
[ Shit, try to call a guy out on acting kinda gay, accidentally call self out for the same thing. He's quiet for a while, considering that. And then considering his other concerns. The blood. ]
[When the silence settles, Alucard stills. Barely breathes, and for that it'd be so easy to assume him a statue. It's only the faint rise and fall of his chest that suggests otherwise and...
...he grimaces.]
A pint, at least. It'd be better if I took from two individuals, in truth.
[ Well. Fuck. Yeah, even he knows he can't spare that much until he's recovered at least a little. And Sypha being so thin, it'd be a lot for her alone even if she did have blood right now. He's not sure she does. ]
[ He doesn't know what blood hunger is like, but he's been hungry before. Sobbing through the ache of it hungry. Bones visible through the skin hungry. Chewing the neckline of his own shirt hungry. Staying perfectly still to last longer hungry. Blue-grey fingers with the nails peeling away hungry.
He can guess. ]
How shitty is it going to be? Would a little take the edge off, or just make it worse?
Nearest bar. There will be enough drunks coming and going that if one passes out for the evening, none will notice. And if there is a bite on the wrist, then so be it.
He looks conflicted for all of about two seconds before he punches Alucard in the mouth, gritting his teeth and twisting his hand so that Alucard's fangs dig into the meat of his palm. ]
[There's no time to react. It doesn't help that the vampire's reaction would be to just punch back, which is a fantastically stupid idea given Trevor's state.
He feels the blood in his mouth though. It's good. It's so good and his tongue moves to try and lick more from the wound and--
--fuck.
Both of Alucard's hands grab Trevor's wrist, yanking it out of his mouth. What comes next is an awful, feral hiss, the kind of noise that a vampire makes.
He took a risk there, assumed that the negative effects of just a little blood would mean Alucard would just behave and eat his god damned dinner. But he didn't. He didn't and-
Fuck, what was he thinking? He was carrying a vampire around all this time. An actual vampire, the kind that thinks nothing of just taking from people who can't protect themselves. He woke him up. He brought him here. He may well have sent him into a fucking frenzy and whatever becomes of this, whoever gets hurt, it's his fault.
He stands. It's difficult. He's unsteady and his side feels like it could collapse in on itself. But he's killed vampires drunk and beaten. Without waking Sypha, he heads out. The nearest bar, Alucard said. Which means the one full of patrons who'll know his face as a 'witch'. He'll figure that out when the time comes. ]
He flies, terrified and furious and so goddamn tired at this point, wanting to snarl and shove the world away but now? Now he's had a taste of what his body has demanded and he needs more. He's always had ways to prevent this. Safe guards. Always paid careful attention to his levels and fed accordingly, allowing him to avoid this moment.
So in the worst of the moment, Alucard gives in. There's a farmer below, napping under a tree. It'll do.
He dives down, still a bat. It's the bat that quietly bites at the man's wrist, it's the bat that takes it's share, and it's the bat the farmer wakes up to and shoes off in an absolute panic, one hand clutching the wound. It's shallow, Alucard took care not to take from a vein, and it'll heal. Alucard will leave appropriate supplies to ensure that.
[ The last thing he has left of his family. He's hunting down the last thing he has left of his family. To protect- what? People he doesn't know. People who less than a full day ago tried to kill the both of them. Who forced Sypha and the castle into their situation. Who caused all of this to happen. To protect them from maybe a few weeks of wooziness, assuming Alucard still has the sense about him not to take too much.
He doesn't care. It doesn't matter that he'd sooner Alucard's company than any of theirs, and it doesn't matter that Alucard stands to do more good than any of them will. All that matters is that there's a vampire, that there are people and that the former is taking from the latter without leave. That's all that can ever, ever matter.
He narrows his eyes at the wolf. His hand is at the whip. ]
You take- [ And he wishes his voice was steadier. It hasn't trembled like that since it broke. ] -a single fucking drop, and I'll kill you. Dracula or no.
[The wolf's eyes move from Belmont to whip back to Belmont. There's no growl. Only a quiet look that is questioning what the Belmont is really going to do.
Then he simply sits in front of Trevor, unmoving. Quiet. Watching.]
[ He lets the whip unwind, snaking across the grass, but goes no further than that. They're at a stalemate - Alucard is just watching, Trevor just waiting for Alucard to try to leave. ]
Please. Take from me. I'm a big fuck with a lot of blood. Or hang in there until we can get Sypha back to normal or- shit, we can just go to someone's house and come up with a bullshit reason why we'd need blood and a bullshit way to repay them. Just not this.
[Alucard sighs. He becomes a man again, holding Trevor's gaze.]
I've already taken care of the matter. I did not take from a vein, the man awoke and shooed my bat form away, and I am about to go find bandages and the like to leave at his door.
