[It has been three very careful months. Three careful months without Sypha, although she writes letters that are delivered once a week to let them both know that she's still okay. That her people are safe, and that she hopes they are okay as well. Three careful months of learning to live with each other properly, the ebb and flow of Alucard's line of work, of getting a slightly larger set of soft cushions to rest on when there's no work left to do.
There's a little loneliness these days. Sypha's presence was something else, although Alucard isn't sure why. Trevor is here and wonderful and makes him feel even more safe and he could cry from that fact alone.
He's been thinking too, while working. While snuggled up and watching the embers in the fireplace die. While doing just about anything. The past and future weigh on his mind.
Summer will be here soon. Alucard still rests in Trevor's arms in the living room, fingers laced together.]
Trevor?
[The question comes with Alucard lifting their hands up. Kissing Trevor's knuckles gently.]
[ There's a story, now. Sypha helped him with it. He's a weaver, boarding with an old friend while he studies the work of the city's artisans. Nothing about it is particularly untrue, just- missing details. It doesn't change much, save that Alucard's grandmothers keep dropping off socks and linens to be darned. He does those errands, and a few that come up in the clinic that he can be trusted with. And then in the evenings he sits like this, bundled up among cushions, Alucard's warm and human weight against him.
It's perfect. His sisters were concerned, at first, but so long as he doesn't neglect his family's work or the tasks that the queen sets for him there don't seem to be any consequences. ]
Mm?
[ He smiles sleepily at the gesture, unthreading their fingers from each other so that he can stroke Alucard's cheek. ]
[ But he strokes over Alucard's cheek with his thumb a few more times. Thoughtfully. ]
But you mean Leon's vow to your ancestors, don't you? [ There are no other deals that apply to anyone they know. Not that he knows of. ] That one's- I don't know the details. But I don't think there was ever an exchange. There's nothing to be returned. It should be reversible.
[ And then, almost hopefully. ] Do you want to meet them? Mother and Leon and my sisters?
[ Alucard's ancestors probably had their reasons for not wanting the things of the morning and night poking their noses in their business. Maybe they were private people. Maybe they didn't care for all the magic interfering with their science. Maybe they didn't trust the motives of Mathias' friends. Didn't want to be compared to him. Maybe they just thought that whatever protection Leon and Sara could offer paled in comparison to the danger of suspicion from the church that they brought with them.
Whatever it was, things have changed. ]
I- wouldn't know. I've never- [ He's been with his own kind before, but never for so long. They're flighty and lose interest quickly and always just left him a little confused about what he'd done wrong. It doesn't stop him from being a little awkward about it. ] I don't know how these things go.
[ He sounds overjoyed, slight awkwardness about 'how do humans relationship' aside. The arm around Alucard's waist squeeze softly. ]
They've wanted to see you for so long. They- they worried, when you were hurt.
[ They couldn't visit him, but Sara asked after him constantly. Leon didn't - at least didn't ask him - but he doesn't think it's a coincidence that someone just happened to behunting where Alucard was when he needed them. ]
I will. It'll need to be before dusk. Leon isn't there at night.
[ And he's kissing Alucard. Just softly. Warm and safe and comfortable, in a pile of cushions with just enough magic woven into them to make them so soft it feels like floating. ]
You'll need to see Leon first. He was the one who made the vow. He can revoke it, if you give him permission.
[Alucard never thought he'd be in a place like this. Safe. Warm. Loved. Kissed and floating along in the arms of someone who truly loves him in turn. Someone who's already made it clear he cares.]
Okay. We'll do that.
[He then pauses, a faint frown on his face.]
Does it have to be formal? I don't think I have the right...anything, for that.
I don’t think they’d care much. Lady Theodora might try to put you in court clothes, but she just likes telling people what to wear.
[ But he pauses. Thinks. He’s had to be careful with the gifts he’s presented to Alucard. Nothing too extravagant, nothing that might arouse suspicion. But if it were just for visiting with the fae and Sara’s court- ]
[ He thinks for a moment, taking his hand from Alucard’s face to draw it slowly across his body. One shoulder to the other, and down his arms. Measuring. Something beautiful, enough to suit his lovely human. More extravagant than he might otherwise make, the kind of thing that he could never own in his human life. He’s planning it out in his head now. ]
A chance to make something worthy of you. [ He says it softly, continuing to trace his hand over Alucard in measurement. ] I’ll make the most of it.
Are we going to do this again? I'm pretty sure I won last time.
[ Nobody won last time they had a 'who is too good for who' contest. Nobody ever does. He moves in to catch Alucard's lips with his own while they're close. ]
They'll be so glad to see you. To see that you're so well, that you're happy- [ Another kiss. ] -that you're still doing your work, despite everything.
[ Okay so maybe he's laying it on a little thick. He always does, when they're like this. Not that he ever misses a chance to talk about why his boyfriend is so good anyway, but when they're curled up like this? He's extra sappy about it. ]
I'd have never found my way back to you, if you weren't still trying to make people well.
[There's a point where Alucard doesn't argue. He kisses Trevor to win the argument, and now is one of those times. One of those kisses where he has no caution in him, is all burning adoration and wanting Trevor to know I love you I love you I love you.
[ Alucard is good at winning arguments. That kiss shuts him up pretty effectively, leaves him just curled around his precious human, wings wrapping around the both of them like another blanket, all safe and soft and loving.
It's a little later that he finally speaks. Almost time to be taking Alucard upstairs. Or at least thinking about it. They've slept down here a few times, now, instead of facing the arduous process of leaving each others' arms. ]
[Alucard snugs into Trevor. Closes his eyes, not dozing but taking comfort in the togetherness. He hums something to himself. Is nearly asleep when Trevor speaks--]
-the speaker. [ He probably shouldn't refer to her in such a distant, indirect way considering what he's going to be saying soon. So he tries again. ] Sypha.
[ He loosens his hold on Alucard a little. In truth, he doesn't know how to go about discussing this. His model for a healthy relationship is two people who havn't even seen each other in 400 years, so- it's complicated. ]
Him Alchemist gonna revoke a deal

[Just the two of them. Like this. Probably for a very long time to come.]
I think that's usually what happens after people do this for a while, isn't it?
[He assumes that Sara and Leon must have seen him at some point while he was unconscious and barely alive. He's never asked.]
