Alucard just watches, shaking his head. He'll ration what's left after this, if only out of sheer need.]

Well, a tethered shovel sounds absolutely ridiculous, even by our standards. [The other option though, that gets consideration and a very long hmmmm.>]

Communing sounds like a slightly learning curve, but probably more effective.

Yeah, probably. I've...never done it but I've studied the principles both at home and here.

[Alucard taps his chin, thoughtful. Considering.

Slooowly taking a scrap of chicken for himself.]

Why don't we try it first by hovering just out of range but directly overhead of what we believe to be the source? That will prevent us from having to finish our rations, but also make it clear that we're genuinely invested in this spirit?

That could work. Maybe if we can draw it out, use our intent, we can put it to rest.

[She eyes her basket, decides no...she's not going to eat more...and stands up.]

Do you need me to make you a disc? The one I can make is really only big enough for one person.

Well, the other option is that I try and hold you up on my shoulders while we do this. Your choice.

As ridiculous as that sounds...no, I think we'll get you started.

[She waggles her fingers, does a little chant, and two floating discs appear side by side.]

Once you step on, just walk. It'll follow your feet. One day I'm going to have to teach you this one.

We'll work on it after this matter is resolved.

[He steps onto the disc carefully, and-- ah. He understands. Another few steps, until he's got control of the concept. Then? Onward and onward to the center.]

[Onward and upward! Sypha begins moving over the field, taking it slow and waiting on him before she finally stops just over the mound.]

Alright. I suppose here's where we should try and draw the spirit out.

[Alucard directs his disc so that he is indeed beside her, and Alucard takes the opportunity to really look.

It's a subtle rise, but there. The rest of the dirt hasn't grown in evenly over time, so it isn't a terribly old death. No wonder.

He sighs, then nods.]

We should also brace, in case the hunger comes out in full force in response to where our presence is in location to the spirit.

Yes. I suppose we should.

[Sypha drops down onto her knees on the disc, settling herself into a position not too different from a meditative posture.]

I think...I'll start. Just will it out into the open, and I'll do the same, but with magic. Our intent needs to be to find a way to put it at peace.

There should be an additional element though. Not just willing something out but trying to make it clear that this is to help. The nuance might be important.

An offering. We can both expel some magical energy towards the grave. It may help form a bridge to help them move on.

Right.

[Expelling magical energy. Alucard nods and begins. Sending his own efforts outward, directing them down to that center and the mound. Like casting out a lifeline for a man drowning. They need only hang on and be pulled in.]

[Sypha does the same, letting a meditative trance come over her, pushing the magic down, down deep into the ground.

There's a stirring, somewhere. A sense of something tugging on the pair of them...]

--There, they've caught on.

[Alucard isn't excited, exactly. More like satisfied with the response. He throws more energy out, keeps inviting the spirit ever upward.]

[strongspirited]

[Sypha does the same, instinctively reaching one hand out to Alucard.]

Together.

[Alucard reaches across the discs. Grabs Sypha's hand, but then? Then the rest is focused on the mound and there's a tug]

We've got something--!

[strongspirited]

Ah! yes!

[There's no physical thing...but there's a kind of emotional and spiritual weight that comes rippling out of the ground. A burst of energy, and the feeling of something being released, as though from a cage.

It lasts only a moment or two more, before it finally begins to fade, like sand caught on the shoreline.]

...That seems to have done something.

[Alucard nearly falls over from the sudden weight that washes over him. It's more from being surprised about the outpouring than a general problem or being off balance, but it still hits.

He isn't so sure about that fade. He frowns, looking askance at Sypha.]

Let's bring our discs closer and see what happens?

[strongspirited]

Right...

[She looks from him, to the mound, then back again.]

On three?

Yes.

[It's Alucard that does the countdown, but he moves just a little slower towards the mound. It's more to do with his ability to control the disk than any particular fear of another wave of hunger, but--]

Are you getting any readings?

[She reaches out...]

...Not from the mound. I think maybe it's gone. We should maybe check the grass.

Let me land and then walk in the grass. Swoop in and grab me if I suddenly fall over.

[Alucard slowly brings himself down. Hops off the disc entirely, leaving Sypha to dismiss it if she'd like. He doesn't stand on the mound itself, but to the side of it.

Starts to move slowly. Considers--]
