[He asks as he just hefts up the Bearmont like he's a grape. A grape one has to princess carry.]

[ His skin is burning hot to the touch, though it immediately becomes cooler as he's pulled away from the bottom of the old fireplace. By the time he's in the air, it's started to grow cold. A few footsteps away and it's at around the right coldness is probably ought to be at. ]

Hurts.

[ Is all he can manage in response, at first. And really, that could be the full answer. He has thorns growing out of his skin, it's unpleasant. But more than that- ]

We fight monsters. That doesn't stop just because we become them.

[Alucard can tell that Trevor's temperature isn't right at all, but he has to ignore it. It is a matter for later, because now? Now the goal is to get inside.

Hurts, he says. We fight monsters he says, and that confirms he is indeed a Belmont. Not just some bear that sprung up from the curse.

Holding Trevor close means that the thorns scratch against Alucard. He's careful with that. As he walks through the door to his wing. As he heads to the washroom Alucard uses as little as he can because it doesn't have real plumbing.]

And you want the fight to be over?

It is over. We lost.

[ It's warmer. It's so warm here, and while he can still barely move already he can feel his body restarting. Blood finally moving into his fingers and toes again. It's a relief as much as it is infuriating. ]

I just want to rest.

Is that why you told me to tell my father that he would only collect remains?

[Alucard sets the man down in the empty wash tub. It's an old, chipped thing but it's more than enough. There are two buckets beside the tub, and they're already warmed. (Alucard has figured out how to make hot water quickly. And keep it warm.)

The water goes in. Slowly. Carefully. Warming limbs is important.]

[ Well fuck, he hasn't been in one of these in- he doesn't remember ever being in one of these. Bathing doesn't traditionally happen to him. ]

The speaker hesitated. He- ugh, shit! [ That's proof the warm water is working, at least, as feeling return painfully to his limbs. They didn't appreciate the freezing. Not at all. ] -he wouldn't hesitate. Not if something fucked with his family.

Especially a Belmont.

[Alucard's cautious as he gathers up some water in his hands and tries to get Trevor's hair a little wet.]

What oath did Sypha break, Belmont? And does my care for her in three years and three days free her from that broken oath?

She promised to kill a monster for me, if I saved her grandfather. Then she refused to do it.

[ His body tries to flinch when water hits his hair, but it can't quite manage that much movement ]

I think so. I hope so.

Was it the bear that roams these grounds?

[Too bad Trevor. Your hair is getting gently wet. Inch by inch.]

Yes. She wouldn’t kill it, and so she was punished for breaking faith.

[ Why. Why this. What has he done to deserve soggy hair. ]

...what are you doing?

She figured out that bear is you in another form. That you were asking her to kill you. What Speaker would abide that?

[Alucard pauses. This one's obvious, isn't it?]

Washing your hair?

[miraclewhip]

The fucking eye tipped her off.

[ He snorts. It still sounds more bear than human, even now. ]

Why? It’s not going to be there once night falls tomorrow.

You still asked a speaker to kill. That's beyond the pale for them, you know that.

[Bear like it may be, but all the same.]

Because as someone with long hair, it bothers me on principle.

You can just cut it if it's a problem.

[ He doesn't know how to respond to this. To hands working through the knots and dirt, trying to put it in order. Trying to put him in order. It's nice, and he doesn't want it to be nice. ]

She didn't have to think about it. It could have been just saving the town from a monster and breaking a curse.

It's nothing.

[It's relaxing, working his fingers through all the knots.  Using nails to get into the finer ones.  Distracting, because distracting is also good.]

But she did.  And doubtlessly that's another reason that laying in the snow waiting for the cold to take you seems a wise idea even now.

[ Well shit. The vampire got it in one. He tries to close himself off, to move away and pull his arms across his chest and distance himself in every way he can, but his limbs refuse to disturb or leave the warm water. Much as he wants to die out there, bodies are infuriatingly attached to continuing to function. ]

-snow doesn't get fucking second thoughts. Wouldn't hurt it if it did.

[Alucard sighs, and it's a truly sad noise. It doesn't migrate into pity though, he seems to understand that that? That's a bad idea. Liable to just get the man angry at him.

He reaches behind, grabbing a bar of soap and then dipping it into the water.

Sorry Trevor. You're getting scrubbed down.]

I suppose not. But if your death failed to free Sypha, would that be fair to her?

Not as if my sticking around is freeing her.

[ Why is there soap involved now? Why is this vampire like this he just wanted to curl up and die and now he is having to endure SOAP. ]

The fuck is that, and why is it doing that to the water?

[ Bear has discovered BUBBLES. Bear hates this. ]

[NOPE. Alucard takes an arm and then? Then he starts to do a scrubby.]

They're bubbles. Part of soap.

[BRUSHY BRUSHY BEAR.]

Do you know how her own curse is broken? Or yours?

[Fuck it. Gonna be blunt.]

[ This is really happening, isn’t it? He’s being scrubbed down with soapy water and it’s nice but also he feels obligated to hate it. ]

Her people said that the way to remedy a broken oath is to make and keep an oath to the victim of the curse. That’s why the - all of that. It’s a guess. But it’s the only guess I have.

[ That’s why you have a stone waifu. ]

[One arm down! And....the bath water is super gross. Alucard ignores that and goes for the other arm, but that one is slower going. It's the one with thorns.]

Mmm, so my oath is your best shot for freeing her.

She'd miss you if you weren't present, I think.

[ He grumbles and flinches occasionally as Alucard works around the thorns. The thorns themselves twist about like veins. They enter and exit the skin through what look both like puncture wounds and burn scars, like wounds made with a heated blade. The wounds, at least, are clean. ]

Only knew her for a few days. She’d go catch up to her people and be happy.

[Alucard makes a noise that suggests he doesn't buy it at all. But he pays attention to the thorns more than Trevor's words, and then he moves onto Trevor's chest.

He's still gentle as he scrubs that. Then moving down, aware that it could become awkward quickly.]

Have the roses always grown like this, or do they spread over time?

[miraclewhip]

They've been like this as long as I remember.

[ He's not quite socialised enough for this to be inherently awkward. But he still tenses as Alucard moves downwards. That feels weird. He preferred it before. ]

I just- woke up like this, one day. Before that it was hot and bright, and I don't remember much.

[Alucard makes quick work of washing below. For propreity's sake if nothing else. He then turns his attention to Trevor's hair, first getting soap onto his hands and then? Then he starts to scrub at Trevor's scalp.

Well, massage. That's the better word for it. He's avoiding even a hint of roughness.]

Is there anything you remember either before or after hot and bright?

[He knows what Hot and Bright is. That's a fire. A murder attempt.]
